Training Highlights: BS in Dance Education from Radford University, K-12 Public School Teaching Certification in Dance, School of the Richmond Ballet, Martinique School of Dance, summer programs at Virginia School of the Arts, and Alonso King LINES Discovery Project.
Career Highlights: Tampa Bay Ballet professional company member, Florida Dance Theatre professional company member, Adjunct Faculty in Dance at Southeastern University, Dance Instructor for Dickinson College, Opening 2nd Street Studio of Dance!
Years Teaching Dance: Over 15 years!
Where You'll See Her: Miss Cindy can be seen everywhere! She teaches classes, runs rehearsals, is sometimes behind the desk, and often still performs! When not at the studio she is often at Tutus and Tendus (dancewear retail store which she started in 2017) or working on emails, social media, choreography, and studio business from home.
Fun Fact: Not only does she love classical dance forms, but she loves social dancing! She has been swing dancing, teaching, and DJing social dances for over 10 years! She counts Lindy Hop, Blues, and Fusion as her favorite styles. She and Mr. Tom even met at a swing dance!
Swing Dance Instructor
(Professor of Biology at Oakland University)
Training Highlights: Tom has been swing dancing for almost 20 years! He has taken many classes and workshops as well as attended exchanges through out the US and Canada.
Career Highlights: Dr. Tom Raffel is a professor of biology at Oakland University and teaches Medical Parasitology, Biostatistics, and Ecology. He has been awarded Researcher of the Year at OU and has many high profile publications.
Teaching Experience: Has taught swing dancing off and on since learning in grad school!
Where You'll See Him: Mr. Tom is often seen at the studio working on construction projects. He even built our beautiful front desk! You'll also see him teaching swing dance classes on Thursdays starting in October and performing in our Incredible Nutcracker production!
Fun Fact: He and Miss Cindy have three cats, and he loves to garden to help the native wildlife.
Training Highlights: Abby is currently a Dance Major at Oakland University and member of the Oakland Dance Theater. She has trained at Carol Ann's Dance Studio and Millissa's School of Dance. She was also a member and captain of the Pinnconning High School Dance Team.
Teaching Experience: 7 years, and first with 2nd Street Studio!
Where You'll See Her: Miss Abby starting working with us this summer at our front desk. This fall she will not only be behind the desk, but teaching classes as well!
Fun Fact: She loves to sing, and has sung the national anthem for 2 major baseball teams including the Detroit Tigers. She also loves breakfast foods!
Training Highlights: Diana has trained under Charmaine Schick of Vaudeville for 20 years. She has also had the pleasure of taking class from Ray Leeper, Napoleon Dumo, Travis Wall, and Marty Dew.
Career Highlights: Has numerous former students who have gone on to major in dance, or are currently working in NYC and LA. Diana has nationally awarded dance numbers in Tap, Hip Hop, and Jazz, as well as numerous regional awards.
Teaching Experience: 18 years, has been with 2nd Street since our opening!
Where You'll See Her: Miss Diana is our beloved hip hop teacher! She not only will be teaching classes this year, but helping to run rehearsals for Nutcracker and Elite Company!
Fun Fact: Miss Diana has 6 jobs and is also a licensed Hair Stylist!! My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving!!
Training and Career Highlights: Jasmine was a member of the Young People’s Ballet Theatre and has taught for Linden Dance Academy and A Joyful Noise Music Studio. She is the Owner and Director of the Purple Tree Dance Company! She also plays Princess Jasmine for birthday parties and events!
Teaching Experience: 5 years, 2nd year at 2nd Street Studio of Dance
Where You'll See Her: Miss Jasmine teaches classes for ages 3-10 on Mondays!!
Fun Fact: She like cats, dark chocolate, and I hold dual citizenship, I'm American and Canadian!
Training Highlights: Minor in Dance from U of M Flint, American College Dance Festival, Teaching Work Study with the Hubbard Street Youth Dance Program, Classes at Joffrey Ballet Chicago and Ruth Page Center for the Arts
Career Highlights: She has been the color guard coach at Ferndale High School for 4 years and has led them to win many awards!
Teaching Experience: 8 years, 4th year with 2nd Street Studio of Dance
Where You'll See Her: Miss Jenny teaches classes on Thursdays! She is hoping to start performing again soon!
Fun Fact: Miss Jenny loves cats, zebras and Starbucks! Her favorite thing to do on Sundays is go to the Detroit Zoo with her husband to see the penguins and the zebras!
Training Highlights: 2nd Street Studio Alumnus! BFA in Dance from Wayne State University
Performance Experience: WSU Company One, WSU Dance Workshop, Scheherazade in American Ballet Theater’s Sleeping Beauty, Firebird Suite with the Detroit Orchestra, Choreographed and performed at Sidewalk Detroit, Kristi Faulkner’s Women’s Work, RAW Artists Detroit, and RAW L.A.!
Teaching Experience: 5 years, 2nd year with 2nd Street Studio of Dance!
Where You'll See Her: Miss Julia teaches classes, runs rehearsals, works at the front desk, and still performs!
Fun Fact: She does not like coffee. Her favorite morning drink is English breakfast tea with honey. She was the first ever Snow Queen in The Incredible Nutcracker!
Birthday Party Coordinator
Training Highlights: BA in Dance from Oakland University, American College Dance Festival, continuing education at Dance Teacher Summit in NYC.
Career Highlights: Miss Kerry owned her own dance studio for 12 years! She has also taught ballet for Rochester College.
Teaching Experience: 20 years, 4th year with 2nd Street Studio of Dance
Where You'll See Her: Miss Kerry teaches many of our young dancers and ballet students. She will be helping with Ballet Company and is our Birthday Party Coordinator!
Fun Fact: She is the proud owner of not 1 but 2 Jack Russell Terriers named Emily and Mike and an avid vegetable gardener.
Training Highlights: Currently a Dance Major at Oakland University and is a member of the Oakland Dance Theater. She has participated and won awards at several competitions while training with Rhythm-N-Jump Dance Academy.
Teaching Experience: Assistant Teacher for 6 years, 1st year at 2nd Street Studio of Dance
Where You'll See Her: Miss Madisyn started at the studio this summer with choreographing for our Summer Dance Company! She will begin teaching classes this fall on Saturdays!
Fun Fact: She plays the flute and piccolo, and is minoring in business administration.
Training and Career Highlights: Has attended Multiple Conventions and Teacher Training sessions including ones with Sonya Tayeh, Mia Micheals, and Brian Friedman. She is currently the Artistic Director of Rising Stars Dance Center in Capac.
Teaching Experience: Over 18 Years! Has been with 2nd Street Studio of Dance since our first year!
Where You'll See Her: Miss Melissa teaches classes on Fridays and Saturdays. After baby #3 she will be returning to help out with our performing groups as well!
Fun Fact: Miss Melissa will be having her third child this October! She loves anything & everything Tim Burton, Harry Potter & Disney! She is obsessed with everything to do with the holidays Halloween & Christmas, and is a big Red Wings fan!
Training Highlights: Arizona State University, Oakland University, U of M Flint, BA in Dance. She has performed in the Port Huron Nutcracker, and won several awards during her years as a competitive dancer. She received her early training from Panache School of Dance, Extreme Dance Company, and Orion Oxford Dance Arts.
Career Highlights: Natalie also is an instructor at Purre Barre in Clarkston and a personal trainer!
Where You'll See Her: Miss Natalie loves teaching conditioning classes and tap! She also has choreographed for our performing companies.
Years Teaching Dance: 5 total, 3rd year with 2nd Street Studio of Dance
Fun Fact: She loves coffee, animals, and flipping over tires for fun!
Pom Squad Director
Training Highlights: BA in Dance and BA in Technical Theater Design from Western Michigan University
Career Highlights: Detroit Pistons Automotion Dancer, Dancer and Dance Captain for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Teacher at Kansas City Ballet School
Where You'll See Her: Miss Rebecca teaches classes, runs rehearsals, works at the front desk, and performs! She runs our growing Pom Squad group of dancers ages 5-12. She is also seen stage managing our productions!
Teaching Experience: 20 years, 4th year with 2nd Street Studio of Dance
Fun Fact: She has traveled to over 50 different countries! The only continent she hasn't been to is Asia!

Miss Kate has been in the education field for 20 years and currently teaches preschool. She loves to read, animals, and visiting national parks! You'll see Miss Kate often working at our front desk, editing photos in the lobby, helping her dancing daughters, or even participating in an adult class or two!
Tuition and Payroll Manager
Miss Lilly is also the store manager at Tutus and Tendus! She loves Halloween and hallmark Christmas movies, and veggies are her favorite food! You'll see her at the desk, helping her dancing daughters, taking an adult class, or even performing!
