The Nutcracker Information

Audition Information

·         You do not need to prepare a dance for the audition.  It will run just like a normal dance class.

·         Please wear dance clothing appropriate to the style of dance you are auditioning for and bring all dance shoes required (ballet dancers need leotard, pink tights, and hair in bun).

·         Come at least 15 mins early to fill out audition information and receive a number.

·         On your audition form you may indicate if you are interested in more than one role.

·          If you cannot make the audition, but still wish to participate please contact us at info@2ndstreetdance.com by September 5th.

Casting

·         All those who audition will receive a role in the production.

·         You must accept all part(s) given to participate.

Time Commitment

·         All dancers must commit to Friday and/or Saturday rehearsals and are required to be at dress rehearsal.

·         Most rehearsals will occur on Saturdays with some younger dancers on Fridays.

·         These rehearsals may vary from 30 mins to multiple hours depending on which parts you receive and can range in time from 8:30am-6:00pm again depending upon casting.

·         Dancers missing more than 2-3 rehearsals may be deemed unready to perform, so please make rehearsals a priority.

·         Dress Rehearsal will be Dec 8th and Performance Dec 9th(exact times TBA) with optional parade Dec 3rd

Communications

·         All communications for rehearsals will be sent through email.  Please check regularly for any changes or updates.

Rehearsal Information

·         Most rehearsals will occur on Saturdays with some younger dancers on Fridays.

·         These rehearsals may vary from 30 mins to multiple hours depending on which parts you receive and can range in time from 8:30am-6:00pm again depending upon casting.

·         Dancers must wear appropriate dance clothing for their role and have hair in bun

·         Rehearsals will not always be at the same time every week.  It is very important that you keep up with your emails to know your correct rehearsal times.

·         Sometimes a dance may need more or less rehearsal time than previously thought. Because this is a full length production there will be times when we will rehearse not only your dance but possibly your whole Act or Scene so that transitions run smoothly.

·         It is important to know which Acts and Scenes you are in.  The schedule might say, “Act 1 from 1pm-2pm” or “Battle Scene from 9:00am-10am.”  Look at the casting list to find out which parts of the show your dancer is in.

·         A tip would be to place all rehearsal times on your calendar and check it each week.

·         There will also be cast and rehearsal lists posted on the bulletin boards.

Participation Fees

·         Dancers will have a nonrefundable participation fee of $150.  This helps cover costuming, sets, theater rental, programs, rehearsal time, etc.  This fee is due by Oct. 10th.

·         Costumes are rented from the studio and not taken home or kept by the dancers.

·         This year we have a new payment plan for our most involved dancers!  Dancers who wish to participate in BOTH The Nutcracker AND our Spring Dance Company may choose to pay a monthly payment of $25 from Sept-May. This fee will be added to your monthly tuition and is nonrefundable. By signing up for monthly payments you are committing to ALL nine months (September through May) of payment. Easier on the budget and for the brain!  This payment plan is not available for those not participating in Spring Dance Company.  Spring Dance Company is where dancers rehearse on Saturdays for performances at the Earth Day Fest, Farmer’s Market, etc. and NOT normal recital classes.

Fundraising Requirement

·         There is a $100 fundraising requirement for the first participant, and $50 for each additional participant.

·         Fundraising will include program ads, holiday photos, bowling fundraiser, painting party fundraiser, and more.

·         If you do not wish to fundraise or do not meet your requirement, you will be charged the remaining amount.

Parade Opportunity

·         Dancers in the show may also participate in the Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade.

·         Participation is not mandatory.

·         All participants (this includes parents as well as dancers) need to purchase a RED 2nd Street Studio Sweatshirt (cost is $20-$25).

·         Parade is Sunday, Dec 3rd and takes place from morning and until late afternoon.

Volunteers

·         We are always in need of volunteers!  There are many ways you can get involved.

o    We are searching for adults for Nutcracker roles (especially men!) which would be considered volunteer and do not require a participation fee, just some rehearsal time.

o    Seamstresses to help out with costumes

o    Help with sets and props

o    Backstage volunteers

o    Fundraising efforts (also look into joining our Boosters Club!)

o    Christmas Parade float preparations

o    Even just spreading the word and putting up flyers!
